I am a pediatric occupational therapist who specializes in aquatic therapy for kiddos with special needs. I previously worked in Fort Collins and have recently moved to the area to start a small practice offering aquatic OT here. Our therapy sessions are currently held at the Courtyard Boulder Broomfield hotel in Louisville.
I work with kiddos aged 2-18 years old with a variety of functional skill levels, but the most common population I see is kiddos with Autism. Some specific skill areas that tend to be most effectively addressed in the pool include:
-sensory modulation concerns
-behavior and regulation
-executive functioning
-global motor delays (gross motor, oral motor, and coordination challenges)
-affinity for water
-fear/aversion to water
I am enrolled with Medicaid, so children with Health First benefits can get their therapy fully covered, even if they already receive OT services elsewhere. Aquatic OT can be a wonderful supplement to regular OT or can be an independent service as well.
