ASBC's Current Board Members

Sue M. Thomas, President and Co-Founder -
Sue is one of two Co-Founders of
Autism Society of Boulder County. ASBC started as a parent support group in
2001. Autism Society of Boulder County is a local chapter of Autism Society.
In 1978, Sue completed her undergraduate BS from Clemson University. She
owned Amanda Sue's a gourmet carry out food business in Nashville, Tennessee
for three years. She has years of experience in event planning. She has
served as a past Board member with the Autism Society of Colorado and served
on several boards in Nashville, Tennessee. Sue has been involved with
supporting the ASD community and has collaborated with many of our
professionals, first responders, families and children on the spectrum. Her
experience in direct contact with our ASD community has given her great
depth into the challenges that affect the daily lives of the ASD community.
Her service to ASBC had made a difference in the lives of those individuals
affected by ASD. Sue has served eight consecutive years as Vice-President
and Events Planner and Coordinator. She presents the First Responder's
training to our police, fire departments and EMT in Boulder and Broomfield
Counties. Sue is a wife and mother of two children, her son is diagnosed
PDD/NOS.

Angelique Layton, Vice President -
Angie graduated from University of Utah Law School in 1989. She has practiced
law in Washington D.C., New Jersey, and Colorado. She is an attorney specializing
in family law, dependency and neglect cases and education law. She currently is
a member of the State Advisory Committee on the Gifted and Talented, is the
Finance Director for the League of Women Voters of Boulder County and a member
of the League Legislative Action Committee. She is also a board member of
Citizens for Voting Integrity and the Vice President of the Colorado Chapter of
Physicians for Social Responsibility. Angie is married and has two daughters.
She has offered her legal counsel over the years to ASBC.
Kimberly Padilla, Treasurer - Kimberly obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from
Johnson & Wales University-Denver. Kim has years of accounting experience, which includes work
in public accounting and the financial services industry. Currently she works for a fast-growing,
privately held real estate company in the Boulder area. Kim volunteers her time as a Catechism teacher
locally and holds a leadership position in ALPFA Denver. Kim anticipates completion of the
Master of Science degree in Accounting from Regis University in the Fall of 2010.
Julie Darrow, Secretary - Julie moved to Colorado
from Houston, TX in 1996. She received a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences
from Texas A&M University in 1995. After relocating to Colorado, she received
another Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Colorado State University in
Ft. Collins, CO in 2000. She worked at a small research laboratory in Ft. Collins
for a year and a half after graduating until the birth of her daughter. After a
few years as a stay at home mom, she rejoined the workforce at Amgen, Inc. in
Boulder, CO. She worked as a Quality Laboratory Associate in the Microbiology
Department. She is currently volunteering with ASBC to help immerse
herself in the autism community.
Ingrid Julyk, Education Committee Chair - Ingrid moved to Colorado
from Iowa City, Iowa in 1989 to attend CU Boulder. She graduated in 1994 with a
BA in Fine Arts, then went on to receive a K-12 Art teaching certificate in 1996.
She spent her first 2 years teaching middle school in Iron River, Michigan before
moving back to Colorado to teach in Clear Creek School District, where she taught
in elementary, middle and high school over the course of 3 years. During that
time, Ingrid's artwork was accepted into the Majestic Gallery in Idaho Springs
where she continues to be a member. She met her husband Bret in 2001, and moved
to Longmont where she taught elementary school art in St. Vrain Valley School
District for 3 years before her son Nathan was born. After making the decision
to resign from teaching and become a stay-at-home mom, Ingrid started a small
business called Glimmer Glass in 2006. Her work is in several galleries and shops
throughout Northern Colorado. She became involved in ASBC after her son was
diagnosed with autism, and continues to be dedicated to autism advocacy, research
and treatment coordination on her son's behalf.

Eugenia Brady, Board Member and Spanish Support Liaison - Eugenia and her
daughter moved to Boulder, Colorado from Costa Rica, almost 11 years ago.
Eugenia is a Community Liaison and Translator for the Boulder Valley
School District. She is also a member of the Leadership Team of the Parent
Engagement Network (PEN), an organization intended to built open
communication and understanding between parents and children, and
through workshops and lectures, provide parenting tools and strategies
to parents of students of all ages. Eugenia believes in the power of
self-advocacy, the educational rights and the potential of all children.
Her experience includes many years of work in the "Patronato Nacional
de Ciegos" in Costa Rica, a government's agency for the Blind and work
with students with special needs at the University of Costa Rica.
Being a Community Liaison has given Eugenia the opportunity to witness
the many struggles of members in our community, many of them, immigrant
families of children with special needs who often don't speak English.
She is currently, a board member of Nuevo Horizonte, a group of 47
Spanish-speaking families with children with ASD, located in Denver,
and is working on a project with the purpose to get information and
resources for parents in any language. Eugenia is passionate about
helping and empowers parents of children with ASD and encourages them
to take a look into the "other side of the Spectrum". She is a mother
of three children. Her son was formally diagnosed with ASD when he was
2 1/2 years old.

David Grimsland, Board Member - - David
grew up in Sparta, NJ and graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia
in 1986. He moved to Boulder in 1987 and began working at the Daily
Camera shortly after in spring of 1987. He worked a total of 17 years
with the Camera and the Colorado Daily before moving on to become
Associate Advertising Director of Boulder Weekly in 2005 where he is
currently employed. David has previously served on the board for the
Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts and is the volunteer newsletter
editor for the Boulder County Parents of Twins & More. David is a husband
and father of triplet boys, one of whom is diagnosed with autism.
Jim Morgan, Board Member - Jim completed an
undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's degree in Systems Engineering. His work
experiences include 10 years in aerospace and with commercial aviation
systems. He lived in Europe, with his growing family, for several years within the
aviation arena. Jim's recent interests lead him to the software industry
as a technical writer, IT support technician, and software tester. Jim’s
Web technologies experience has allowed ASBC 6+ years of volunteer service as Web site
manager for Web maintenance and upgrades.
Jim has served on the Broomfield County Cultural Council and contributes as
a volunteer Leader of the Science Task Force at the Broomfield Public
Library. Jim is a husband and father of five children. His three sons each have
IEP's with his second son diagnosed PDD/NOS.
